![]() ignite on the streets iots is ignite's program of putting faith into action. We believe that Christianity is all about doing, not just about thinking; and don't worry if you wouldn't say that you're a Christian, because on the Streets is a MATCHES activity - the reason for it is based on faith, but you don't need to be a believer to get loads out of serving your local, national and international community! on the Streets activities happen throughout the year and you'll find details on this page as they are arranged. If you're a member of an ignite Bonfire Group then you'll be driving these activities - if you've got an idea for what you'd like your group to be doing, tell you group leader and your event will be featured on this page... ignite on the Streets - Forthcoming Events Saturday 18th July 2009 (led by the 'Costa Boys' & 'Wednesday Nighters' ignite Bonfire groups) ignite Family Funday A brilliant day full of activities for all the family 11-4pm in and around the centre, including bouncy castle, BBQ, basketball competition, stalls and much more raising money for ignite and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Click here to check out the event on Facebook... ignite on the Streets Week iots culminates every year with a whole week of the Summer holidays serving the community of Loughton and working with our partner projects in Central London. For a whole week people will live together on the ignite site and spend the day taking part in projects that really make a difference to lives of people who need help the most. In the past, projects have included everything from delivering furniture to people with nothing in Battersea, to gardening for a community adventure playground in Shadwell to cleaning windows for the elderly of Loughton and Debden...
iots Week 2009 iots Week 2009 is running from 11th to 16th August (Tuesday to Sunday - 6 days and 5 nights). The basic format of the week is that the group lives at St. Mary's (sleeping in either the ignite centre or the new halls of St. Mary's Church depending on numbers), with a typical day consisting of: Breakfast Morning Briefing & Team Time Morning Project Lunch Afternoon Project Dinner Feedback from the Day Free time at the Centre/Out Together in London Bed Projects will include local projects that are organised by ignite, like shopping for older people, cleaning windows, tidying gardens, etc, as well as working with local partners (like working with Epping Forest Rangers) and on a couple of days we'll take part in projects in London that we have links to, such as helping out at the community adventure playground in Shadwell and helping at the warehouse for the Besom Project in Battersea. If we're in London during the day, we'll make a packed lunch before we go out and probably eat out in town somewhere. We ask for £25 for the week to cover food, etc, and suggest that everyone brings a couple of pounds a day of spending money for any drinks or snacks they want to buy while we're out and about. As usual with ignite activities, if money is a problem, let us know and we'll come to an arrangement where you will receive a discount or can pay over a period of weeks or months. Wanna get involved?! Sign up here, now! |

"You are here to be light... God is not a secret to be kept." A short note to explain our short quote... This is something that a guy called Jesus from a place called Nazareth said, recorded in a book (sometimes called a 'gospel') about Him written by a guy called Matthew about 1900 years ago. Jesus spoke in a language called Aramaic, and Matthew wrote in a language called Hebrew, so it's been translated a bit since it was originally spoken. This translation of Jesus' words is recorded in a version of the Bible called "the Message". We think these words are *really* important; everything ignite does is about letting young people know that they are here to be lights shining in a dark world. It's pretty cool really to think that what one person said nearly 2000 years ago is still changing people's lives even today... |
