So what is "ignite" anyway?!

ignite is the name of an organisation created by St. Mary's in Loughton (Essex, UK) which provides activities for young people living primarily in the Epping Forest area. It is mainly for young people in school years 7 to 11 (that's roughly ages 11 to 16), although there are some activities for children, and ignite partners with a group called 'Beta' who runs activities for age 17 to 30 (click here for the Beta website).

ignite is proud to partner with a number of local and national organisations in the planning and delivery of its activities and is funded by St. Mary's along with a number of statutory bodies and grant-making trusts. (click here to head to our Partners Page for more information)

ignite is run by Christians, but it’s not just for Christian young people. Nobody is going to preach in your face, and nobody is going to hit you over the head with a Bible either. Every activity ignite does falls into one of four streams – MATCHES, SPARKS, FLAMES or INFERNO – to help you decide what you would benefit from and enjoy coming along to. Basically, the hotter the fire, the more ‘Jesus stuff’ you’ll come across. So, a MATCHES activity won’t have any Christian content unless you specifically ask for it, whereas if you come to an INFERNO activity we will assume that God rocks your socks!

So, wherever you are at, whether you'd say you just know Jesus from RE at school or because you were chatting to Him earlier today, ignite has something for you, and by picking what stream is right for you, you can make sure you aren't going to get involved in something that doesn't interest you...

"You are here to be light... God is not a secret to be kept."
A short note to explain our short quote...
This is something that a guy called Jesus from a place called Nazareth said, recorded in a book (sometimes called a 'gospel') about Him written by a guy called Matthew about 1900 years ago. Jesus spoke in a language called Aramaic, and Matthew wrote in a language called Hebrew, so it's been translated a bit since it was originally spoken. This translation of Jesus' words is recorded in a version of the Bible called "the Message". We think these words are *really* important; everything ignite does is about letting young people know that they are here to be lights shining in a dark world. It's pretty cool really to think that what one person said nearly 2000 years ago is still changing people's lives even today...
